Water’s the source of life, but can be the arch nemesis of those with plumbing problems. A plumbing malfunction could literally ruin a house and cost a lot of money. Fortunately, homeowners can take a lot of steps to prevent plumbing nightmares and to minimize the effects when they occur.
Don’t use any colored tablets that claim to be cleaners in your toilet. These products can be great when it comes to getting rid of odors, but unfortunately, they can cause significant damage to the rubber portions of your toilet. This can lead to it breaking down or having other issues.
If your toilet will not flush, and there is very little water in the basin, try to fix the issue by dumping warm water in the bowl from around your waist line. Once the water level gets low again, repeat the process.
Garbage Disposal
If you want your garbage disposal to have the same lifespan as your total home, clean it regularly. Cleaning can be done with a variety of things you may already have in your home, such as dish-washing soap, the rinds of lemons, or the pits of cherries. When you create a regular cleaning schedule, you can make sure your garbage disposal runs in tip-top shape and smells fresh and like new.
To lower the chance that you will have issues with your toilet, do not approach it like it’s a trash can. Do not flush things like paper towels, sanitary pads, tissues, diapers, cotton balls or anything else that might cause the toilet to get clogged. Don’t flush massive amounts of toilet paper at once, either. Most of the time, you shouldn’t need a lot of toilet paper to clean yourself; don’t use more than necessary. If you have an emergency that requires a lot of cleaning, flush toilet paper a little bit at a time instead of all at once.
Always remember to keep your dryer’s lint trap clean. This will help your dryer to work better and may also prevent fires. See to it that you look at the lint trap and find out if it has tears or holes in it that could cause lint to go inside your pipes. This could lead to clogs or other problems in the future.
If you don’t want to spend a lot on repairing plumbing problems, learn to prevent problems before they occur. Clogs are the most commonly reported problems when it comes to plumbing issues. You can clog your drains with hair. To keep hair out of your plumbing, use a screen or cover for your drains that allows water through but keeps hair out. It is easy to get the hair out of a screen; however, removing it from a pipe is a different story.
